"The Undisciplined Disciple"

Is there such a thing as an "undisciplined disciple?" In complete honesty I want to say "No." But unfortunately I would be wrong. The world and our churches are filled with "undisciplined disciples." Myself being numbered among those ranks at times. Discipline is an essential part of any Christians life.

Think about it this way, as a disciple I am called to make disciples. Which means I can't make a disciple if I am not one myself. A disciple would be one who pursues the disciplines modeled by Jesus Christ. Jesus prayed. Jesus fasted. Jesus meditated on Gods Word. Jesus studied God's Word. Jesus led a disciplined life that cultivated a relationship with the Father.

When we follow in the example of Christ and pursue the disciplines he modeled, we are preparing our lives for God to work in, grow us, and transform us. It takes a disciplined life, and not just spiritually. I would say that it takes a discipline physical and mental life as well. Discip…

In light of a conversation I had with a friend the other day, I came across this blog that perfectly echoes our thoughts as minsters and leaders of the church. We are dispensable. We are tools that are used by God to accomplish His purpose. When I am done, that just means that God will raise someone else up to accomplish His purpose. This is both a humbling reality and relief for those of us in ministry.

"I Don't Know"

Confession time: I don't have all the answers. When I was in my 20's I thought I had all the answers. There is nothing that I didn't know. Now I'm in my 40's and I realize that I know less now than when I was in my 20's. Try to wrap your heads around that. It took me 20 years of ministry to realize it, but in complete transparency, "I don't know" are the three most common words in my vocabulary. And I'm ok with that because its honest. Most of the time I just don't know.

If I did know everything that would make me either Google, or God himself. Me saying "I don't know" is not the same as saying "God doesn't know." We don't know everything God know. When we admit that we honor him.

The book of Ecclesiastes does not directly name the author. The text does give plenty of clues and the most widely held believe is that it was written by King Solomon towards the end of his life, not the young know it all, but rat…

"Be The Man."

My word for 2019 is “Brave.” I want to be braver than I have ever been. Bolder than I have ever been. I want to risk more for God, my family and my church. My word is brave and I am already doing pretty good with it. watched two scary movies this year already. Only had one nightmare.
Here is why "Brave" is my word, Philippians 2:12… Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
It’s kind of an ironic statement because salvation cannot be earned by good works; it can only be received as a free gift. But once you receive the free gift of salvation, you have to take it to the gym and work it out. Which means we become the men of God that you were saved to be.
“Fear and trembling,” those are the words that made me think "brave" because the truth is, this ain’t easy. It’s not easy being a man of God in this world, in this culture. We are tempted a…
